The remainder of today’s Vaal race meeting, scheduled for April 3, 2025, has been abandoned. The decision follows a track inspection conducted after the conclusion of Race 2, which revealed that the racing surface had become inconsistent and unsafe due to heavy rainfall received both prior to and during the event.
A concerning incident occurred during Race 2 when Wings Of Ice, who was among the front-runners, appeared to fall. Fortunately, both the horse and jockey Philasande Mxoli escaped serious injury. Mxoli had a lucky escape in what could have been a severe accident, but early reports confirm that he is unharmed.
With the safety of horses and jockeys as the top priority, officials had no option but to call off the remainder of the meeting. Further updates on the condition of the track and the rescheduling of any affected races will be provided in due course.
