SPOTTED ANALYSIS
RACE 1 #2 FIRE STARTER
Handled a significant rise in distance extremely well last time, stepping straight from 990m to 1400m. Showed his natural speed by setting a strong tempo in front and, despite the demanding early pace, kept finding to hold off Nordic Prince at the finish. Steps up slightly further to 1500m this time, and his latest performance suggests he should cope with the additional ground. Although drawn wider than ideal, he possesses enough early speed to overcome the draw and secure a favourable forward position without compromising his preferred racing pattern. He also brings the best Speed Rating and Time Factor in today's field, providing further substance to his strong recent performance. With his tactical speed and strong figures, Fire Starter sets the standard and looks the horse to beat.
RACE 6 #1 CUMBRE VIEJA
Remains unbeaten in Mauritius with a remarkable eight wins from eight starts, establishing himself as the standout performer on the island and a genuine superstar of the local racing scene. Produced another exceptional performance over 1600m last time, being credited with an adjusted time of 1m34.05s — faster than the official record time for the distance. That performance once again highlighted the exceptional level at which he is currently operating. Steps up to 1850m, but given his versatility and the strength of his performances, the additional distance should pose no major concern. More importantly, he meets significantly weaker opposition than he has been accustomed to facing. Unbeaten, at the peak of his powers and dropping into a much weaker field — Cumbre Vieja should simply prove too strong.
RACE 7 #4 HAVANA MOON
Has built an excellent record in Mauritius with five wins from seven starts, with his only two defeats coming against the outstanding Cumbre Vieja. On both of those occasions, he was unable to adopt the front-running tactics that appear to bring out the best in him. Reverted to his preferred front-running style on his latest outing and the result was emphatic, completely dominating his opposition from the front. The step to 1650m should pose no major concern, particularly if he is able to control the tempo and conserve energy through the early stages. The race setup looks favourable once again, with Havana Moon expected to secure the lead and dictate matters on his own terms. At his best when allowed to roll in front — Havana Moon is the horse they all have to catch.
WATCH OUT
RACE 3 #3 MASTER POINT - Could cause an upset if reverting to his front-running tactics in a race lacking a clear leader.
RACE 8 #1 DANILO DANILOVITCH - Could surprise with a drop in class, ideal draw 1 and 4kg apprentice claim, while a fast pace should play perfectly to his strengths.
